Welcome to the land where the past and future dance together—Baku!


Kickstarting our adventure, We dived headfirst into the city’s heart, exploring the enchanting Old City. Narrow cobblestone streets led us to hidden gems like the Ali Shamsi Art exhibition and we had the pleasure of meeting the Master himself. The old city is filled with charming cafes, several museums including the Baku Museum of Miniature Books housing rare ancient books from around the world.  As the sun dipped behind the ancient walls, we savored a local feast setting the tone for the days to come.


Day 2: Day Trip to Gabala

We took a day trip to Gabala and the legendary Diri Baba’s Tomb on the way Shamakhi was like stepping into a fairy tale with a dash of historical intrigue. The journey unfolded through lush landscapes and winding roads, painting a picturesque backdrop for our adventure. Our next stop led us to the enigmatic Diri Baba’s Tomb, nestled in the serene mountains. This ancient mausoleum exuded an air of mystery, surrounded by tales of spiritual significance. Legend has it that if you wish for something and walk round the tomb 3 times, one of your wishes will come true…in case you were wondering, I made 3 wishes and did the walk because a girl can wish. Climbing to the tomb’s vantage point, we were rewarded with breathtaking views that stretched beyond the imagination.

Continuing our excursion, we journeyed to the majestic Yeddi Gozel Waterfall, also known as the Seven Beauties. As we trekked to the highest cascade, the journey tested our resolve, but the awe-inspiring sight was well worth the effort. Along the way, charming cafes offered warm tea and coffee, providing a welcome respite amidst the climb. A day brimming with cultural marvels and natural wonders—a true Azerbaijani gem!


Day 3: Modern Marvels and Flame Towers

Rise and shine in the City of Winds! Our day kicked off with the futuristic Flame Towers dominating the skyline. Baku’s modern side unfolded as we explored the dazzling Heydar Aliyev Center—a gravity-defying architectural marvel, filed with amusing historical pieces from art to carpets and of course exhibitions showcasing the rich history of the country. I certainly recommend you visit while in Baku. Nightfall brought the Flame Towers to life in a spectacular light show, leaving us mesmerized by the city’s contemporary charm.

 

Day 4: Caspian Shores and Culinary Delights

 

Time to explore Baku’s coastal charm! We strolled along the Caspian Sea promenade, soaking in sea breezes and panoramic views. Our taste buds went on a wild ride as we sampled local delicacies picturesque restaurant in front of the Caspian Sea. Dear foodie, let me tell you something… the food here is AMAZING!

We continued our stroll right up to highland park, located on the highest point of Baku. From the terrace, you will have a fantastic panoramic view of the city and Caspean sea. It was time for dinner and let me tell you, nothing prepared me for culinary wonderland land we stepped into. This gem, Vətən Restoranı, was recommend by a local friend and it was everything and more she promised it would be. The food, the ambiance, the service, the food, oh did I mention the food? It was mouthwatering delicious. We got a private dinning experience in a nice cozy room; we the nice waiters poured our wine and treated us like royalty. It was an amazing restaurant and I totally recommend it.  

From pomegranate-infused dishes to aromatic teas, Baku’s culinary scene won our hearts.

 

 

 

Day 5: Aerial Views and Farewell Fiesta

Our final day soared to new heights as we took a cable car to the Flame Towers’ observation deck. Baku unfolded beneath us like a living mosaic—a breathtaking panorama etched in our memories. Wrapping up our journey, we indulged in a farewell feast at Bar 19 in one of the flame towers, we started with two delicious mojitos toasting to the incredible moments shared and the promise of future adventures.

 

Baku, you’ve woven yourself into our hearts with your blend of history, modernity, and warm hospitality. Until next time, Azerbaijan, Sağ ol!
